Underground and surface buses share a badge and almost nothing else. Spec them as two different vehicles, because they are.
Underground: heat, air and clearance
Below ground the constraints are ventilation heat load, exhaust and emissions conditioning, fire suppression, and clearance in tight headings. Low-profile bodies, isolation points and the right exhaust treatment aren't options down there — they're the spec.
Surface: dust, roads and rollover
On top it's dust sealing, ground clearance, rollover protection, air suspension for the corrugations, and seat-belt monitoring. The haul road is the enemy — seal against it and build the running gear to take it. Where the access is rough, that means a 4×4 or high-clearance platform.
Standardise where you can
